Making of… Common Sense
I’ve been dyeing Common Sense colorway this week, and it is absolutely one of my favorite colorways of all time! Luckily, I get to dye it quite often as you seem to like it as well!
When I first created Common Sense back in Spring of 2023, I did have a vision, but the first batch turned out quite dark and it wasn’t really what I had in mind. I kept at it and after the third or fourth attempt I got the result I was truly pleased with. It might have turned out even prettier than what I imagined (although saying so myself!) and I only realized later that this colorway can be combined with so many other colors, which is always a huge plus.
I use large rectangular pans for dyeing this colorway, so I can lay out the skeins nicely and apply speckles. I then let it sit for a while before adding more water and “cooking” it. After dyeing, I let it cool down, and then wash the skeins. It takes multiple washes to get all the citric acid “residue” out of the fiber. After that, I’ll hang the skeins to dry.
Once the skeins are dry, I twist them into skeins, et voilà!
The light, delicate Common Sense is ready!
